The pandemic has definitely cost millions of people their slice of a good life. A lot of families used to spend their time outside the house, but with lockdowns being imposed left and right, it’s just becoming harder and harder to spend time outside. This means everyone is at home, and suddenly, everyone is getting sick of one another. Can’t seem to work things out for everyone? Here’s a few activities the whole family can do while in quarantine.

Making Breakfast Happen!
Although some families eat the most important meal of the day together, most of them make it an eat-drink-go scenario before doing their personal tasks. But now that everyone isn’t going anywhere, make breakfast a family activity. Invite the kids to help in preparing the food. They can crack the eggs, halve the pandesals, prepare the juice, or set up the table.
Not only is this a bonding time for the family, but involving the kids in basic kitchen work also teaches them the importance of food. And with all the work that everyone will be doing, they’ll be sure to rack up an appetite. Good thing breakfast will be served soon!

DIY Projects
Being stuck at home is draining. The repeated scrolling in Facebook and watching of viral TikTok videos suddenly become tedious and...well, boring. There’s almost nothing exciting to do. Luckily, the internet has multiple use. Literally anything can be learned from the web with just a few taps on your phone or laptop.
Why not set a DIY project for everyone in the family? It could be anything: from personal projects, to group works, something close to their interests, or something entirely new. Why not try sewing a new curtain for the living room? Maybe mom would like a new jewellry box for all those necklaces she bought online? Turn old clothes into exciting, upcycled ones to give a fresh look for those at-home #OOTDs.
There is no limit to what they can DIY, at the comforts of their own homes. Not only will this expand the skills and experience of each person, it could also keep everyone’s minds and bodies busy which means staying healthy!

Less Digital, More Traditional
Scrolling on social media for hours and hours is not healthy at all. It’s easy to feel burned out while quarantined at home for months at a time. As much as it is a way to stay connected to the outside world (where we’re not allowed to go), it can easily drain a person and horribly affect their mental health.
Instead of mobile phones or tablets for entertainment, switch to the old school entertainment activities! Try board games such as Snakes & Ladders, Chess, Dama, or Sungka. Lessening the usage of phones or tablets can also lessen the chances of getting eye damage. And if anything, additional expenses isn’t something we need right now.

Photography
Can’t avoid using phones? Do photography. This is a great way to use the imagination and explore their creativity in making content. Use different scenes to set the theme or subject. Use props and costumes for that extra spark. With the outcomes, there could be an additional photobook lying around in the house after quarantine.

Movie Night
They say that if you want to know someone, find out what movies they like. Set up a schedule for everyone, i.e. designate a day per person where they get to choose the movie that the whole family will watch. Now, the aim here is to get to know the person who will choose the movie, so watch with an open mind. You never know, you might discover a few things about yourself too.
After watching, it’s a great option to talk about the movie. What are the highlights of it, what made it so interesting for the person who chose it. Everyone gets to have a day of getting to know one another via their movie choice. It’s a great bonding experience to strengthen the connection between members. This, as a routine, can also help the whole family unwind from the stress of working from home or online classes.
Having the family together during this pandemic can sometimes be irritating and frustrating. They can be quite annoying to be with, especially when there’s constant chaos in the house, fighting over chores, sharing of bathrooms, and other frown-inducing scenarios going on for days without end. But it is a blessing because having the family together means that having each other’s back, literally.
The pandemic may have caused life on the outside to change, and people are now forced to stay with each other 24/7. But on the bright side, think of it as a way for the whole family to bond and get to know each other. It's knowing the good and the bad while accepting it, learning about the self and others around. It’s a process and way of understanding that not everyone is perfect.
